Where it all began...
I learned to do cross stitch when I was 12 years old, and since then I've been obsessed with embroidery. Over the years I did small embroideries here and there, all without commitment.
When I started dating, I ventured into embroidering a photo of us in cross stitch, and it was one of the most challenging embroideries!
...But there it is, with a lack of time, the embroidery dragged on for 2 years!
When the quarantine began, I confess that I didn't know where to turn... They were days of great anxiety, some fear of the unknown, and not knowing how to manage the mix of internal feelings.
I picked up the embroidery, pressed PLAY on the Grey's Anatomy series, and started Cross Stitch again. It took 2 days to decipher the codes that took up two pages!
As the days went by, the anxiety, fear and mixture of feelings dissipated, and the taste for embroidery gained more and more strength.
You know when you're reading a book, and you get involved in such a way that it seems like you're already one of the characters?
The peace of mind that takes over our bodies when we are doing something we genuinely enjoy?
That's how I felt when I got back to doing something I loved!
I'm just the one who takes care of everything, from communicating with customers, to producing the embroidery, to shipping it to them.
It went from a hobby to a small business.
How did the name Maii Shirts come about?
The main objective would be to be able to identify the product and who created it through the brand name :)
"Maii Shirts" arose from the combination of my name + the main product , which at the time was embroidery on T-shirts, sweaters, etc.
Maita + T-Shirts = Maii Shirts (Maita's T-shirts and/or T-shirts made by Maita)
When pronounced in English it sounds like “My Shirts”, that is, “My shirts”.
It was this feeling of belonging that I intended to convey through each embroidered piece.
A unique, personalized piece for everyone!
You never forget your first order, right?
And then it continued, one point at a time...
It didn't take long until the Christmas season arrived and the need to have a perfect new product to offer as a gift. It was then that I decided to talk to my FriendRitox so we could create embroidered memories.
She dealt with the illustrations, I with the embroidery and you with ordering and contributing to Solidarity Christmas (for each order €5 was donated to a Home for Children and Young People).
That year €200 was donated <3
New Year New Life...
I emphasize again that " there being no limits to creativity has always captivated me" and it didn't take long until I discovered the world of Punch Needle!
Throughout 2021 I was experimenting, testing new needles, new fabrics, new lines...basically a new way of spending money :)
I was afraid that by sharing this new experience I would mislead followers... because on a page that only shared embroidery on clothes, random things appear out of nowhere.
I thought it was time to change the name of the page to something that better reflects my Art.
That's how I moved on to "Maii Handmade", a brand that continues to be yours and has no artistic limits.
